It has been a heck of a year. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a disruptive global crisis that is far reaching, with once-in-a lifetime effects. Our global economy shrunk by over 4%, the lowest since the Great Depression. And to make matters worse, COVID fatigue is affecting our mental health with alarming elevated levels of anxiety, substance abuse and depression. To the extent that the life expectancy in the U.S. has been reduced by at least one year and even more for BIPOC groups. Heavy.
Yet, through the ashes of this pandemic, we are beginning to now experience the renaissance of economic recovery generating a new class of innovators and entrepreneurs. Consumers are using digital tools to connect, learn and play like never before, and those behaviors are here to stay as our "new normal". Friends, it is a great time to start a business! To solve a customer problem with unique, delightful products and services.
At the same time, legacy businesses have had a wake-up call and are swiftly adapting to the customers' expectations by improving supply chains, investing in long-term customer journey roadmaps,...all because customer-centric enterprises will win the race. As Sam Walton said, "The customer is the boss, he can fire everyone from the CEO on down by spending his money somewhere else."
For the last 20+ years, I have had a maniacal focus on the customer. I have had the good fortune to work for amazing companies, launching, building, and scaling world-class brands.
